Wellness

I am always looking for inspiration! A vacation that ticks off my wellness to-dos or a dedicated wellness retreat are breaks that I am always excited for. This is because I get stuck in the rut of my routine and find that I am not making progress in my wellness goals and on top of that so many busy periods at work and social events throw me off my healthy habits practice and before I know it, I am back to square one.

Working in the health and wellness space has showed me that a majority of people are not health savvy. They are happy to take treatments after they are diagnosed with a disorder but are not happy to take preventive action like annual health screenings or practicing healthy lifestyle habits daily. I don’t blame them because completing work and family obligations leaves very little time, energy and money for us to indulge in everyday self-care or taking a dedicated wellness break.

However, when we prioritise ourselves for a change, we can take time off from our schedule, find the energy and invest in our wellbeing to take at least a short break to focus on our wellness and health. If this break is a wellness retreat, it has several benefits.

First of all, it is perfectly normal to travel alone for a wellness retreat and spending me-time is beneficial to reflect on the positive changes that you want to make in your life. Then you get away to a place that is away and different from the place you work and live and you get inspired to visit a brand new spot on earth that you haven’t ever been to enjoy a new experience.

Most wellness retreats focus on a few areas of your physical health such as eating habits, sleeping soundly and physical activity. Some may even have seminars or wellness workshops by experts to provide information and stimulate you to improve your lifestyle habits and teach you a few new skills.

On top of that they focus on reducing stress via meditation, yoga, being in nature, mindfulness activities and even relaxing spa treatments. Stress reduction has a profound positive affect on immunity building, improving cardiovascular health and increasing your well-being according to several research studies.

You are also more likely to meet like-minded individuals who may encourage you. Wellness retreats subtly provide you a direction to attain optimum wellness that in turn is beneficial for your mind and body. The biggest advantage is gaining a new perspective that helps you to redefine your goals and come back reinvigorated and motivated to implement them.
